Therapy for teens at the Collective
At Huffmaster Therapy Collective, our approach to working with children, pre-teens, and teens centers on nurturing relationships and skill building. We recognize that trust is essential for them to feel comfortable opening up and making use of a treatment, so we prioritize establishing a safe space and connection. This begins by connecting with your child through their interests, whether it's through music, games, art, or any other means that resonates with them.
As we get to know each other, we will begin exploring more of the feelings, experiences or problems that have led your child to therapy, and coming up with new skills and strategies to help them. Therapy sessions are led by your teen and what they want to work on or talk through, but can also be more guided at times. Our therapists will discern what your child needs, and it may change each session. Therapy offers a place to debrief the week, employ therapeutic interventions, and wrap up with helping your child feel good and equipped for the week ahead.
A note for parents:
We offer support for you too.
At Huffmaster Therapy Collective, we approach teen therapy as a collaborative endeavor, with everyone aligned towards a common objective. Common questions about therapy for teens at Huffmaster Therapy Collective
-
We believe parents or caregivers are a crucial part of any therapeutic process for their child. Your level of participation in the therapy is based in part on the child’s age. You will be regularly informed on things we are working on, and we may schedule regular parent sessions in order to help you build insight, and learn about how you can interact differently with your child at home. Teen parents may be less involved but it varies on a case by case basis. Your therapist will make the appropriate recommendations and we will always discuss with you.
-
Your child’s confidentiality and trust in their therapist is of the utmost importance. While we keep you updated, the specifics of the sessions will remain confidential*. If the therapist feels that something important should be shared with you, the therapist will first discuss this with your child and explore how it can be shared in a positive and productive way.
*as mandated reporters, we are obligated to always take appropriate action in the event that your child is in danger of themselves or poses a risk to others. In these cases, breaking confidentiality would be necessary to keep your child safe.
-
This depends on your child’s unique needs, and what the therapy process looks like for them. Some need brief support and problem solving, while others may want and need to stay in treatment longer. We will always be monitoring their progress and providing clinical recommendations in order to help you and your child make decisions about their care.
